At Sound Pop Academy, we’re all about staying contemporary and current, with a hint of ‘iconic’ from back in the day too. The songs we learn and rehearse weekly are the songs that we perform in our epic shows throughout the year and the reason why our members love being a part of Sound Pop Academy.
We all know that Pop Music is defined as being ‘Popular Music’. So music you’d typically hear on Radio 1 and Capital FM would all fall into this category. Artists such as Taylor Swift, Ed Sheeran, Bruno Mars and Little Mix do ‘Pop’ very well because they’re the songs which get stuck in our heads everyday, making them ridiculously popular! As much as we love learning their songs, we also like to push things even further. We love looking for new and upcoming artists and seeing whether we can implement their music in to what we do here, allowing our members to experience this music before it hits the radio stations. An example of this would be JP Cooper’s song, ‘September’. Before this started to get some serious airplay on the radio, we had already been all over it for weeks. Why we do this? Well, it influences and inspires our members to be more independent in the way they access music, and it helps keep what we do here current!
As much as we love ‘current’, we also know that there are some artists and songs from back in the day which can only be defined as ‘classics’. This is where our ‘hint of iconic’ comes into play. We think that young people should experience and be surrounded by music from every generation, so we love mixing contemporary, modern day songs with songs they may not have heard before. But we do this in our own way, and give it our own twist – a little bit of magic, giving our arrangements, harmonies and sessions that little something extra.
If you’re looking to be part of a fun, contemporary and friendly group of likeminded singers, dancers and performers, then get in touch. And if you’re already a member, then we’re excited to continue this journey with you!
We run incredible public workshops throughout the year for young people aged 7-17! Tickets for our public workshops tend to go quickly, so be sure to keep checking back for new events if we’re sold out.
