My love of music started when I was 8 and not allowed to be in the choir at school! Fortunately, my mum was really supportive and I started singing lessons. By the time I was 14 the local authority gave me a scholarship for lessons. That was when my life changed. I went on to study Music at University and then specialised in further study in London. This was all before becoming a professional singer for 10 years. I had an amazing time singing in all the main theatres in the UK, travelling abroad and recording on radio and appearing on TV.
After 10 years of touring and living in hotels I started teaching on the Musical Theatre course at Winchester University. I loved it. Feeling that I was helping improve the voices of young singers and giving them confidence helped me to make the decision to become a full- time music teacher in secondary schools.
I have directed shows, led workshops and encouraged many young people to love and enjoy music and some have made the decision to make it their career too.
Sound Pop Academy
In September 2019, I became Academy Leader of Sound Pop Academy for their Portsmouth academy. It’s been an amazing journey where we see new members join every month. I feel proud of their enthusiasm and energy.
Every week I look forward to Thursday when I see everyone and make a difference.
