Learning to perform with Sound Pop Academy

Our Sound Pop Academy sessions are all about having fun and making friends. But we also focus on developing the skills of our members. This year, we have introduced our ‘Academy Learning Plan’ to encourage members, no matter their age or ability to improve their performance skills.

As part of our Academy Learning Plan, we have a ‘focus skill’ that we work on for an entire term. Today, we thought we’d share more about the skills we’re working on in our Spring term sessions.

Little Sound Pop Academy

In Little Sound Pop Academy, we’re working on developing a sense of rhythm. This means we’re spending lots of time in sessions playing games which will help our youngest members recognise rhythms and patterns in the songs they are learning and will help them be able to move in time when singing and dancing.

So far, our singers have had a great time skipping, hopping, jumping and even rowing in time to music to encourage them to be able to find the beat of a song. Check out our Eastleigh Little Sound Pop Academy improving their sense of rhythm to one of our songs, ‘Heaven On My Mind’ originally by Becky Hill & Sigala.

We can’t wait to see how much our Little Sound Pop Academy members improve over the next few weeks and to see how proud they are of themselves when they perform for their families at our end-of-term Showbacks.

Sound Pop Academy

This term, our Sound Pop Academy members are focussing on their performance skills. We have some super exciting performances coming up in 2023 so we are working really hard to make sure that our members know how to put on an out-of-this-world performance.

This week, our Hedge End Academy members were working on using engaging facial expressions and interacting with each other whilst performing. And we think they were doing a pretty fantastic job!

We’ve also been working on avoiding distraction whilst performing. Our Leaders and Assistants have had a great time doing everything they can to try and distract our members during rehearsals. They’ve tried loudly singing the wrong words, jumping around, and even secretly inviting parents and guardians to come into rehearsals to watch mid-song. We pinky promise our members have enjoyed playing the ‘distraction game’ just as much as we have!

Public Workshops

We run incredible public workshops throughout the year for young people aged 5-17! Tickets for our public workshops tend to go quickly, so be sure to keep checking back for new events if we’re sold out.
