We love that Sound Pop Academy sessions focus on learning and developing skills as a performer and allow our members to grow in confidence and make new friends. Our sessions will continue to always focus on this. However we wanted to offer something to those who were hoping to gain leadership skills and an accredited award through their participation in the arts.
And so please let us introduce to you, the Arts Award…
What is the ‘Arts Award’ is usually the first question we’re asked. And our usual reply is, “Imagine the Duke of Edinburgh Award… for the arts!”
Well, it’s true! The Arts Award is an accredited award, managed by Trinity College, London. The Arts Award inspires young people to grow their arts and leadership talents and it runs in a similar way to to the Duke of Edinburgh Award. You can achieve the Arts Award at Discover, Explore, Bronze, Silver and Gold levels.
Young people who participate in the award will typically have to document their arts journey, findings and discoveries in their own way. There’s no right or wrong way of doing this and young people can be as creative as they wish. Whether they record their journey in a log book filled with photos and drawings, or perhaps use the art of creative writing to log their findings. They can even create their own YouTube channel and talk about their discoveries… the choice is theirs!
From Bronze level, the Arts Award really starts to inspire young people into developing their own arts research and leadership skills. Some of the pass factors rely on the sharing of a skill, independent research and reviewing shows and events – it’s super creative and we are keen to offer this to any of our members who are looking for that extra something from Sound Pop Academy.
Our Arts Award sessions will run separately from Sound Pop Academy’s regular weekly rehearsals and sign up is exclusively for our Sound Pop Academy members. If you have a child that would like to participate in the award that’s not already a Sound Pop Academy member, then drop us a message. We’ll discuss some of our options around membership and joining our academy. Alternatively, if you have a child that’s already a member and would love to participate, then you can sign them up now. Please log into your Members Area and click on ‘Calendar’ and look for ‘Arts Award Sign Up’.
Our next Arts Award session will be for those wanting to start their Discover Award and this will run at the d.@rt Centre at Wildern School, Hedge End.
